Zachary Dalton Pruner, 16, of Stanfordville, NY was killed in a car accident on August 29th, 2013. Zach loved life and loved to live it to the fullest; he was fearless in doing so. He did not hesitate when new opportunities or challenges came his way. He was excited to be starting a new school year at Stissing Mountain High School which included being with his closest friends - Ricardo, John Vita, Tristen, Niall, and Dustin - and to be playing on the school football team; he loved football.
Zach is survived by many loving family members. Shane Gilmore, Zach's older brother, was a big part of Zach's life and Zach looked up to him. He wanted to serve in the military one day just like Shane. Zach's mom, Sue, was not only his advocate and protector, but also his best friend. It was the two of them against the world. It was from her that Zach acquired his zest for life. He loved his dad, Marty, and his stepmom, Gwen. His sister in law, Cait, was his confidante and friend, and he thought she was awesome.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents James and Doris Pruner.
Even at such a young age, Zach was selfless and dutiful. He demonstrated courage and honor when helping hostages at the same school, years before, in 2009. Zach was the kind of person who made others smile and he himself loved to laugh. He was always up for a good time and enjoyed his time here, although it was way too short. He had already done such amazing things with his life and would have gone on to do even more remarkable things in the future. The world will be a poorer place without him. Zach was an upstanding citizen, dear friend, loyal and loving family member. In his sixteen brief years, he lived more fully than most people ever do: he traveled, he loved, and he put himself on the line to save others. He was a young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson, brother, and friend.
