William George Schnackenberg, 74 a longtime resident of Claverack, NY passed away on Monday January 2, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.
He was born on March 3, 1937 in Hudson, the son of the late Claus and Berta (Luhrs) Schnackenberg. Mr. Schnackenberg had been employed as physical education teacher with the Taconic Hills Central School where he also served for some time as athletic director. He coached boy's varsity basketball for several years and started the girls varsity soccer program at Taconic Hills in 1982 and continued to coach soccer after his retirement from the school district in 1992.
He also was associated with Red Apple Realty in Claverack as a licensed agent.
Mr. Schnackenberg attended the former parish's of Sacred Heart in Philmont, NY and St. John Vianney in Churchtown, NY. More recently he was a communicant of the Parish of Our Lady of Hope in Copake Falls, NY. He also served as a confirmation teacher for many years in the various churches. He was a member of the Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie, NY and was president of the Bob Bailly Memorial Golf League there.
He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Heidi Schnackenberg and husband Eddie Vega of Plattsburgh, NY and Kimberly Sharer and husband Robert Sharer of Colonie, NY. Also, a sister Elizabeth Guiseley of Union, ME along with his two grandsons, William Vega and Joseph Sharer. Along with his parents he was pre - deceased by a brother John Schnackenberg.
Friends are invited and may call on Friday January 6, 2012 from 4 - 7 PM at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22 in Copake, NY.
Services will be held on Saturday January 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope in Copake Falls, NY.
Interment will be private in the Mellenville Cemetery.
