William J. Dodds, 85 of Red Hook, NY passed away suddenly on Saturday November 9, 2013.
He had been a resident of Red Hook since 1964 previously residing in Hillsdale, NY. (Columbia Co.)
He was born on June 23, 1928 in North Hillsdale, NY a son of Robert and Mary (Brown) Dodds.
Bill was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen High School in Hillsdale, class of 1946, where he played saxophone in the dance band. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy at the end of World War II.
He worked in the family business, Dodds General Store, as well as on the Dodds family farm from a very early age, and returned to the store from 1951 - 1959 at which time he added major appliance installation and repair to the business. He later was employed by IBM in 1960 until his retirement in 1989. During retirement, he started Mid Hudson Golf Works, a custom golf club building business.
Bill was very active in his communities as a member of the former Roeliff Jansen Lions Club and as an active member of the Red Hook United Methodist Church serving in the choir and many positions. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Red Hook Golf Club.
He was pre deceased by his wife Helen (Thomas) Dodds in 1992 and siblings Robert, Matt, Mary and Betty.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathleen Dodds of New Jersey and Carol Ames of Raleigh, NC and his companion, Shirley Fingar of Craryville, NY along with many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at North Hillsdale United Methodist Church, Friday, November 15, 2013, 2-4:00 pm. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday November 16, 2013 at 10 AM from the Red Hook United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jennifer Tiernan - Bindler officiating.
Interment will be in the North Hillsdale Cemetery also on Saturday at 2:30 PM.
