William G. Bancroft III, 61, of Pickens, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2021 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 13, 1959 in Mt. Kisco to the late William II and Jean (Phillips) Bancroft. Bill graduated from Stissing Mountain High School in 1977, and was an outstanding track and field athlete. In 1979, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served until 1985 when he was honorably discharged.
Bill was a self-employed plumber, owning and operating Bancroft’s Plumbing and Heating, in Pine Plains for many years before moving to South Carolina. He had a love for the mountains, which is what attracted him to Pickens, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He loved riding his Sportster through the Blue Ridge mountains and spending time with his friends. Friends and family will remember Bill’s infectious laugh, larger than life personality, and his love for a good time.
William is survived by his longtime companion Lori Houseman. His siblings, Keith and his wife Kelly Bancroft, Mary Thomson, Donna Stickles, Cindy Cobble, and Patricia Hurley. Three stepchildren, Marcie Berry, James Funk, and Michelle Empert. One uncle, Robert Bancroft, in addition to several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ronald Hurley.
Graveside services will be held on October 2, 2021 at Noon in Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Peck & Peck Funeral Home of Pine Plains.
