Milan - Walter C. Wesarg, 78, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY, after suffering leukemia for some years.
He was born on January 27, 1934, in Weehawken, NJ. the son of Walter and Martha (Heuer) Wesarg. He was reared on the family dairy farm on Brooklyn Heights Road, Milan, attended Red Hook Schools and was active in FFA. After being kicked by a cow that shattered his ankle, he shifted his focus to developing a custom farm business. Over the years he grew that operation to sizable proportion investing in tractors and equipment for planting and harvesting of corn and hay, land clearing, pond site development and in the winter, snow plowing routes. Walter's love and passion for the land complimented his devotion to work.
In 1970 he became an initial investor in Pine Plains Tractor & Equipment and later acquired complete ownership while moving the operations across the street from it's original home. He then embarked on an expansion of property and buildings on that property to better serve his customers and community.
A quiet and gentle man by nature many of us will never be privy to his many acts of generosity and kindness. That was his way, showing genuine concern with little or no fan fare, yet accomplishing the task at hand in a most gracious manner.
He is survived my many who loved him, wife Kathy Hayes and family, Steve and Ryan of the custom business and all those from Pine Plains Tractor & Equip., Inc. who served him well and honestly over these years.
