Thomas L. Kane, 70 of Hillsdale, NY passed away suddenly on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY.
He was born on December 28, 1943 in Yonkers, NY a son of the late Thomas J. and Mae (Coring) Kane.
Tom moved to the area in 1954 from Yonkers and was a graduate of Roeliff Jansen High School.
From 1984 to the present he served as a deputy with the Columbia County Sheriffs Department. Previously he had worked for the Columbia County Highway Department and the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation at Lake Taghkanic and in Copake Falls.
An avid outdoorsmen, he loved to hunt and fish and was a longtime member of the Oxbow Club in Hillsdale.
Tom was very active in his community previously serving as Hillsdale Justice and town councilman. He was a devoted member of the Hillsdale Fire Company, past chief and current fire commissioner. He was a board member of the Community Rescue Squad, a county and town Republican Committeeman and had served as Police Chief for the town of Copake.
On May 16, 1964 at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church in Copake Falls he married Jean E. (Pulver) Kane.
Survivors include his wife Jean Kane of Hillsdale; his children, Master Chief Thomas O. Kane, U.S.N. and his wife Donna of Virginia Beach, VA and his daughter and her husband, Mary Louise and Robert Lopez of Copake. He also leaves his grandchildren, Thomas Kane, Bradley Kane, Megan Lopez and Robert Lopez. Also surviving are his siblings, Laura Haight of Altamont, NY, Sister Mary Louise of Watervliet, NY, William T. Kane of Copake and Leo Scopino of Leesburg, FL.
Friends are invited and may call on Sunday June 15, 2014 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8074 State Route 22 in Copake Falls, NY.
A Memorial Mass will be offered Monday at 11AM from Our Lady of Hope Parish, 8074 State Route 22 in Copake Falls, NY. The Rev George Brennan will officiate.
Private interment will be held at a later date.
