Thomas Dewhirst, 76, of Clinton Corners passed away peacefully June 1, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 24, 1946 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Thornton Dewhirst and Helen M. Coffey Dewhirst. Tom graduated from Millbrook High School in 1966 and went on to a 27 year career ending as service manager for Agway Energy Products. Once the boredom of retirement set in, he went to work for the Town of Stanford as a laborer. He also served as town councilman for the Town of Stanford.
In 1969, he purchased a Mach 1 Mustang. Once added to his passion for drag racing, the rest was history. He enjoyed racing at Lebanon Valley Dragway and traveled through the northeast with nostalgic drag race club N.E.T.O and enjoyed attending NHRA national events. His other passion was his property and farm. Where he watched the turkeys and enjoyed his nightly Jack Daniels. Also, he befriend and fed the turkeys and had his beloved cats. No morning was ever complete without Fox & Friends.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Erin Dewhirst and his two daughters Candice Dewhirst Adams and Heather Dewhirst (Eric) Button. His six grandchildren, Cleigh Adams and his girlfriend Isabella Cherko, Chelsea (Kristinia) Klenchik, Adrianna Adams, Brandon, Jessica and her fiancé Sean, & Allison Button and her girlfriend Maria. Two great-grandchildren, Elayna & Ava. He is also survived by his sister Susan Funk and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his step father, Sam Bernard.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be on Tuesday evening, June 6, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:30pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main Street, Pine Plains. A prayer service will follow at 7:30pm.
