Susan M. Koehler

Susan M. Koehler, 78, of Ghent, passed away on July 31, 2024 at Albany Medical Center with her husband and daughter by her side. She was born on May 22, 1946, in Yonkers to the late George and Ann (Zuban) Fitzgibbon. After high school she went to school to become a Registered Nurse and began working for Misericordia Hospital Emergency Room in the Bronx. She ended her nursing career working for Dr. Gregory in Chatham. In February of 1968, she married William Koehler, who survives at home.

Susan was a hard worker and had gone to work for BBL building bridges in and around the mid Hudson area. She learned most all of the trades involved and was able to perform most all of the jobs. After retirement they enjoyed riding their Harleys cross country. Together they also transported horses throughout New York and the northeast.

Bill and Susan moved to New Mexico for some years before returning to New York to be closer to their grandchildren. Who were the absolute loves of her life. She did everything if not with them, for them. Her and Bill attended the shows where the grandkids would show horses, goats, cattle and pigs. In addition to being at all of their sporting events. She also loved her gardens and just being outdoors.

Susan is survived by her devoted husband, William, her loving daughter Kristina (Koehler) Schrader, and her two adoring grandchildren, Sage & Shelby Schrader. She is also survived by her nephew, Thomas Fitzgibbon and her niece Patty Davis. In addition to numerous relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her sister Barbara (Fitzgibbon) Donahue.

The family wishes to thank Greenport Rescue, Ghent Firefighters and Albany Medical SICU for their excellent care and compassion.

A Memorial Mass will be held on September 7, 2024 at 11:00am from St. James Catholic Church in Chatham. Interment will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.
