Roswell H. Simmons

Roswell H. Simmons, 67 of Poole Hill Rd. in Ancram, NY and a former resident of Pine Plains, NY passed away on Monday October 11, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on October 29, 1942 in Poughkeepsie, NY a son of Roswell M. and Eunice (Raycraft) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons attended Pine Plains Central Schools and upon his graduation in 1960 enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17. He proudly served his country from 1960 - 1963 aboard the U.S.S. Springfield. He was trained to repair transmitters and receivers for cryptic messages and was granted top secret clearance. He also attended Canton Agricultural & Technical College and later graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
Upon completing his Naval obligation he became employed by IBM in March of 1964 retiring as a senior toolmaker in 1992.
Mr. Simmons was a former member of the Pine Plains United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sunday school teacher and youth group leader. He later became affiliated with the North East Baptist Church in Millerton, NY serving on it's Board of Trustees. Most recently he attended the West Copake Reformed Church.
On September 5, 1964 in Canton, NY he married Sharon (Ames) Simmons who survives at home. Also surviving are his children, Laurie St. Germain of Uncasville, CT, Alexander Simmons and Christopher Simmons both of Copake, NY and Jeffrey Simmons of Poughkeepsie. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by his siblings, John Simmons of Willsboro, NY; Steven, Curtis and Davis Simmons all of Pine Plains, Fred Simoncini of Pine Plains, J. Peter Simmons of Stanfordville and Catherine Hay of Pine Plains. Also, several cousins, nieces and nephews survive.
Friends are invited and may call on Friday October 15, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22 in Copake NY.
A Service of Remembrance will be offered on Saturday October 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the West Copake Reformed Church, 2692 County Route 7 in Copake. The Rev. Dr. Robert Charnin, pastor will officaite.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
