Rose Marie Orton

Stanfordville - Rose Marie Orton, 97, a long-time resident of Stanfordville, NY, died Friday, May 27, 2011 at the St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.
She was born on December 12, 1913 in Brooklyn, NY to the late James and Mary (Landy) DeCaro.
On April 23, 1939, she married John C. Orton at the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Millbrook, NY. He predeceased her on July 7, 1987.
Mrs. Orton worked at the Greer School for Boys in Millbrook, Cavalier Gage in Salt Point, Whalen's Drug Store in Poughkeepsie, and did housekeeping. She was a 73 year Grange member, a charter member of Stone Church Grange #1561 in Dover Plains, and after moving to Stanfordville in 1955, transferred her membership to the Stanford Grange #808 where she served as Flora for many years. She was also a member of Dutchess County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange, and the National Grange. Rose was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Bangall and member of the Forever Young Club of Stanfordville. Mrs. Orton also served as an inspector of elections for many years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Oliver and Karen Orton of Stanfordville, NY, a daughter and her significant other, Mary Haight and Bruce Griffing of Cape Coral, FL; three grandchildren, Matthew Haight (Trish Taylor) of Castaic, CA, and Ryan & Allison Orton of Stanfordville, NY; a sister, Felicia Northrop of Peekskill, NY, sister-in-law, Mary DeCaro of Union, NJ, brother-in-law Albert H. Orton Sr. of Spring Hope, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Gabriel DeCaro, James DeCaro, John DeCaro, and Angelo DeCaro.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 7749 S. Main Street, Pine Plains, NY. The Stanford Grange will conduct a Memorial Service 7:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 84 Hunns Lake Road, Bangall, NY.
Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, 64 Hunns Lake Road, Bangall, NY.
