Ronald Gene Parliman, of Pine Plains, passed away at the age of 84 on November 29, 2021. Born on March 30, 1937 to the late Floyd Jr. and Dorothy Arnold Parliman. He graduated from Pine Plains Central School and joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1955. Ron was assigned to the strategic air command with the 55th strategic recognizance wing at Forbes Air Force base, Topeka, Kansas. He was awarded the Air Force outstanding unit away and the good conduct metal. Ron was discharged in 1959 and returned to Pine Plains.
In 1961 he married Judith Dufel in the Centre Glenville Methodist Church, Scotia, New York. They settled in Pine Plains where Ron was employed by the Pine Plains Central School District as a bus driver, and mechanic for 16 years, and transportation director for another 14 years. He retired from there in 1992 and began working for the Travis Bus and Truck Company for 10 years.
Ron enjoyed camping and traveled the USA with his wife Judy and their beloved dogs. His other passion was the Pine Plains Hose Company where he held many positions: including President, Vice President, trustee, and Captain. He also served as fire district secretary/treasurer for 32 years and fire commissioner for 11 years. After joining in 1965 his favorite spot was truck driver and pump operator. He could get water out of the air. Besides the Hose Company, Ron was a part of the American Legion firing squad for 30 years. He was a member of the Exempt Fireman Association, Dutchess County Volunteer Firefighters Association, Mount Washington Observatory, AARP, APCRUE, Dutchess County Civil Defense and the First United Presbyterian Church.
Ronald is survived by his two children, Brian and his wife Marie Parliman, and his daughter, Heather Oliver. Two grandchildren, Jason and Lauranne Oliver, in addition to nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Judy in June of this year. His brother, Gwinn A. Parliman. In addition to his two foster brothers, Peter and Herbert Robinson.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains, 3039 Church Street, Pine Plains.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains, or St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Burial will take place privately in Evergreen Cemetery.
