Pine Plains, NY - Robert L. Harpp Sr., 64, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Vassar Brother's Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He was born on April 5, 1945 in Sharon, CT the son of Freda (Houghtaling) Harpp of Millerton, NY and the late William L. Harpp.
Mr. Harpp was the Pine Plains Highway Superintendent, which he loved..
He was past Chief and member of the Pine Plains Hose Company and member of the Pine Plains Rescue Squad. Bob was a member of the Dutchess County Highway and New York State Superintendents Assoc., member of the the Executive Board of Dutchess County Highway Superintendents Assoc. and a Member of the Committee for 911. He was also a past member of the auxiliary for the Pine Plains Police Department.
He rejuvenated the Babe Ruth and Senior League Baseball teams volunteering many hours at the food booth at the Little League Fields. He was the original crew member "Motor Man" for stock car Racing for # 34 Ottomobile, # 32 Ottomobile and # 99 Village Variety. He loved NASCAR Racing he was a big Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. He was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed going to the games.
He enjoyed the Friday night club where he was the key entertainer.
On February 5, 1966 at the Pine Plains First Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains, NY he married Judy (Shook) Harpp. She survives at home.
In addition to his loving mother and wife Judy survivors include a daughter, Lenora L. Hart of Stanford, NY a son, Robert L. Harpp Jr. of Pine Plains, NY; three grandchildren, Abigail Harpp, Nolan Harpp and Austin Hart; three sisters, Beverly MacDonald of Millerton, NY; Gail Killmer of Hillsdale, NY and Joyce Cooke.
Mr. Harpp was predeceased by his son, Thomas John Harpp on Aug. 1969.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 pm on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home South Main ST. Pine Plains, NY.
Funeral services are 11 am on Tuesday, February 9, from the First United Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains, NY with Rev. Carol Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery Pine Plains, NY.
