Robert M. Fisher, 81, long time Claverack resident passed away on February 10, 2025 at his residence. He was born on September 3, 1943 in Hudson to the late Irving and Evelyn (Dietz) Fisher. He attended Hudson High School and in February of 1963 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his basic training at Camp LeJeune he was stationed in Vietnam. During a campaign against hostile forces near Phu Bai, he sustained a gunshot wound to his forearm and was honorably discharged after earning a Purple Heart. As a decorated Vietnam Veteran he was proud of his service to our country and was a proud member of the American Legion Post in Philmont. When Bobby returned to the States he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in the City of Hudson. He knew everyone on his route and sure could tell some stories. After retiring he began to enjoy his love for the outdoors.
Bobby was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, shooting trap and skeet but his true passion was fly fishing. He taught lessons at Columbia Greene Community College on how to Fly Fish. Which also allowed him to teach the youth and mentor kids about hunting & fly fishing. Bob was a member of Trout Unlimited and was a life member of the NRA. He was also very involved in the local sportsman's clubs and was a member of Glencadia, Philmont Rod & Gun, Ye Ole Duck Hunters and was a life member of the Hudson Fish & Game Club where he also served as their delegate with the Columbia County Sportsmen Federation.
Robert is survived by his loving daughter Kim and her husband James Burke. His four grandchildren, Paige Fogarty and her husband Timothy, Katlin Burke and significant other, Jonathan Decker and Colby & Colin Fisher. His two great granddaughters, Natalie & Adaline Fogarty. He is also survived by his son, Robert Fisher Jr., his brothers, William and Charles (Helen) Fisher and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Revede Fisher, his sisters Patricia Robertson and Catherine Smith.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be held on Wednesday February 19th from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Burial with military honors will take place on Thursday at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville at promptly 11:00am. Those wishing to attend are asked to please gather at the cemetery entrance no earlier than 10:50am. Arrangements have been entrusted to family friend, Robert M. Donaghue.
