Richard H. Krakaur, 91 of Calico Lane in Claverack, NY passed away on Friday August 9, 2013 under the care of Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.
He was born on February 11, 1922 in New York City the son of Herbert and Edna (Kahn) Krakaur.
Mr. Krakaur had been a local resident since 1979 previously residing in North Bellmore, Long Island.
He was a graduate of City College of New York and during World War II while in the service he attended the Wake Forest University School of Finance.
He served his country with the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1945.
An accountant, Mr. Krakaur served as comptroller and treasurer for Associated Baby Services in New York City from 1946 - 1979.
He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, an avid golfer and former member of the Columbia Golf and Country Club and had served as treasurer for over 30 years for CAL, the Community Activities League. An accomplished musician he enjoyed his music and was proficient with many instruments including the organ, saxophone, clarinet and harmonica.
On August 14, 1943 in New York City he married Mildred (Kramer) Krakaur, a blessed union just 5 days shy of 70 years.
Survivors include his wife Mildred of Claverack, NY; his children and their spouses, Richard and Roberta Krakaur of Trinity, FL, Jane and Joseph Raco of Philmont, NY and Kenneth and Priscilla Krakaur of Williamsburg, VA. He also leaves his grandchildren, Roger Schlueter, Beth Howe, Meredith Rodriquez, Joseph Raco Jr., Allison Krakaur and Rachel Johnston along with three great grandchildren, Dakota, Dylan and Andrew.
He was pre deceased by a grandson, Keith Schlueter in 1991.
Private interment with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday August 13, 2013 at the Mellenville Union Cemetery.
Friends are invited and may call on Monday August 12, 2013 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM at the family residence, 15 Calico Lane in Claverack.
