Richard Alfred Belliveau

Stanfordville, NY - Richard Alfred Belliveau, 83, of Hunns Lake Road, and formerly of Amenia, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT after a long illness.

He was born on August 19, 1931 in New Bedford, MA the son of the late Alfred and Ida (Richard) Belliveau.

Mr. Belliveau attended grammar school at St. Mary's in New Bedford, MA, until the eighth grade. He graduated from Bristol County Agricultural School in Dighton, MA.

At the age of twenty four he was employed by Chauncey Stillman at Wethersfield Farm in Amenia, NY. During his forty six years on Wetheresfield, he held positions as herdsman, horseman, coachman and finally as manager of the estate. He retired in 1996. He loved his job, his employees and the horeses. For a number of years, Richard was the only coachman in the State of New York.

He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY and formerly a lecturer at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bangall, NY. As a young man he was active with the 4-H in Amenia and Millerton. He's a member of the Hackney Society and the Carriage Association. A member of the Stanford Forever Young Club and was an avid bowled at the former Washington Lanes, in Millbrook for many years.

Mr. Belliveau was an avid reader and shared many of his stories to a usually captive audience. He loved dancing. He and his wife belonged to the Pawling/Dutchess Quakers where they enjoyed both square and round dancing. They also took many ballroom dancing lessons and applied their dance moves at many events. He and his wife loved to travel. They traveled abroad, sharing pictures and stories with their family and friends.

On November 14, 1953 he married the love of his life, Betty Marie (McGhee) Belliveau at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY. She survivors him at home.

In addition to his loving wife Betty of sixty years, survivors include five children, Theresa Belliveau Brewer and her husband, Robert of Millerton, NY; Jeffrey Belliveau and his wife, Priscilla (Finley) of Yanceyville, NC; Andrea Belliveau Lyle and her husband, David of Millerton, NY; Joel Belliveau and his wife, Mary (Miller) of Millerton, NY; Jill Belliveau Carroll and her husband, Stephen M. of Amenia, NY; twelve grandchildren, Nicholas Brewer, Emily Brewer Egan, Erin Belliveau Burke, Richard C. Belliveau, Aimee Lyle Ziegler, Trevor Lyle, Levi Belliveau, Aera Belliveau, Erika Belliveau, Stephen R. Carroll, Gavin Carroll and Logan Carroll; seven great grandchildren, Aman Egan, Carmela Egan, Caiden Brewer, Riley Ziegler, Zelda Belliveau, Connor Burke, Averi Burke.

He is also survived by a sister, Dolores Camandona and her husband Charlie.

He was predeceased by his twin sister Rita.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, November 7th, at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY with Fr. Kent Wilson officiating.

A reception will follow at Uncle Sonny's Cafe, 6270 Rte. 82, Stanfordville, NY 12581.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Stanford Rescue Squad, Stanfordville, NY 12581.
