Raymond Wendover, 80, of Gallatin, passed away at home on November 16, 2024 with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Poughkeepsie on December 2, 1943. Ray was one of six children to the late John and Ruth (Sherman) Wendover. He grew up in Pine Plains and truly never left. On April 16, 1965, in Smithfield, he married Linda Woodcock, and together they enjoyed 59 years of Marriage. They enjoyed vacationing at their camp in Edwards, New York for many years. Ray owned and operated Wendover Lawn Service for many years before transitioning the business to his son Raymond. He was a hard worker who never stopped working right up until the end.
Raymond was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and was a master at practical jokes. April Fool’s Day was something of a national holiday for him and his family, including a couple of years ago when he was made to believe he won a boat! Ray was an avid fisherman and deer hunter, who also enjoyed bowling, a good game of “ Screw your Neighbor” or Cornhole. In his later years he enjoyed casino trips and playing his scratch offs. Ray and Linda also enjoyed taking many scenic rides around town in his 55 Thunderbird.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Linda and their children, Robert (Lynn), Raymond (Carolyn), and Darcy Hay. Seven grandchildren, Raymond, Casey, Robert, Caitlin, Courtney, Natalia and Tyler. His six great grandchildren, Steven, Dylan, Silas, Sarah, Robert and Inessa. His sister, Millie Murphy and several precious friends.
