Sharon, CT - Raymond J. McCarthy, 83, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT.
Mr. McCarthy had long ties with Stanfordville NY since his childhood.
He was a former New York State Trooper for 10 years and operated the Gulf Gas Station and Purdy Real Estate in Stanfordville with his wife, Jeanne Juckett Purdy who he married on March 17, 1968. For the past 20 years he operated a livery service.
Mr. McCarthy served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sargent.
Born February 28, 1930 in the Bronx, he was the son of Christopher A. and Mae (Hickey) McCarthy.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne of Canaan, CT; four sons, John Purdy and his wife Patricia of Hyde Park, NY; Dana Purdy and his wife Chris of Maine; Kevin McCarthy and his wife Sandie of Sharon, CT; and Shawn McCarthy and Jess Piche of Canaan, CT; seven grandchildren, Connie Conklin; Aaron Purdy; Kyle, Conor, Caelyn, Olivia and Aidan McCarthy; one great granddaughter Alexis Conklin; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
There are no calling hours.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 AM, on Wednesday, October 30, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Bangall, NY.
