Nora Doherty Cowherd

Nora Doherty Cowherd, 94, died at her home on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Born in County Roscommon, Ireland on October 25, 1920, she was the daughter of Michael Doherty and Mary Morrisroe Doherty. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her three children: William Kevin Cowherd and his wife, Nancy of Cockeysvile, MD; Maura Rose and her husband, Dr. William Rose of North Egremont, MA, and Stephen Cowherd and his wife, Anne of Westport, CT, as well as her eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Nora emigrated to the United States at the age of 17 and practiced as a nurse before marrying the late William Bailey Cowherd of Brooklyn, NY in 1947. Thereafter, she lived in Brooklyn, Havana, Cuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Puerto Rico before settling in Orange County, NY (Monroe and Middletown) and spending her later years with her daughter and her family in North Egremont.

An energetic, fun-loving and caring person, she stayed active to her very last days, had a great Irish wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Arrangements are being handled by Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Copake, NY, with calling hours scheduled for Friday, January 2, 2015 from 3 PM to 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Parish of Our Lady of Hope in Copake, NY and a reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Parish of Our Lady of Hope or the Amyloid Research Program c/o Dr. John Berk, Boston Medical Center, 72 East Concord Street, Boston, MA 02118.
