Moretta McKown Napoli, 104, a 60 year resident of Pine Plains, NY passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT.
She was born on July 22, 1909, the daughter of the late David and Anna (Hagan) McKown in Bronx County New York.
On October 31, 1936 Mrs. Napoli married Carl A. Napoli at St. Cecilia's Church in Manhattan. He predeceased her on July 7, 1996.
Mrs. Napoli was a graduate of Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY, Class of 1932 and graduated from Fordham University's Master's program.
During her career as an elementary school teacher she taught at St. Francis Xavier, Bronx, NY, Thornwood Public School, Thornwood, NY, and retired from the Pine Plains Central School District after many years of teaching. Throughout her long teaching career Mrs. Napoli touched the lives of numerous students.
Mrs. Napoli was formerly a secretary of the Council of Churches, a Sunday school teacher, a secretary of the Pine Plains Garden Club, a literacy volunteer, a volunteer for the Retired New York State Teacher's Reading Program and a member of the Northern Dutchess Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Napoli is survived by her son, Charles Napoli of Pine Plains, NY, her two daughters, Moretta Salvia and her husband Matthew of Stanfordville, NY, Jane Casazza of Pine Plains, NY, four grandchildren, Joseph Salvia of Red Hook, NY, Daniele Casazza Braham and her husband Luke of Tampa, FL, Jennifer Casazza Blackburn and her husband John of Gallatin, NY, Edward Casazza III of Dallas TX, as well as her six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon and Brooke Salvia, Tessa and Luke Blackburn and Joseph Braham.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Virginia McKown Dalheim in 1969.
Calling hours will be Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 3-8 PM at Peck and Peck Funeral Home, South Main Street, Pine Plains, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Moretta's life will be Friday, November 8, 2013, at 11 AM, St. Sylvia's Catholic Church, 104 Broadway, Tivoli, NY.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains, NY.
