Mary Bernasco, 96 of Yonderview Rd. in Hillsdale, NY passed away on Sunday November 3, 2013 at Fairview Commons in Gt. Barrington, MA.
She was born on February 20, 1917 in Manhattan to Michael and Mariah Gambon.
Mary proudly served her country as a staff sergeant with the United States Army from 1943 - 1945 in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations.
A licensed social worker she attended New York University and received her Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago. She had been employed by the City of New York, New York State and most recently as a supervisor at the Wassaic Developmental Center and also at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.
Mrs. Bernasco served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was instrumental in starting the nutrition site at the former St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church in Copake Falls, NY. She contributed to several local and national charities and had a special affection for the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.
She was pre deceased by her husband Edward Bernasco in 1987.
Survivors include nieces and nephews along with extended family members.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday November 10, 2013 at 1 PM from the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake, NY. The Rev. George Brennan from Our Lady of Hope Parish will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx NY.
