Louis Marcelli, 89, a long- time resident of Craryville, NY passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Chandler Hall Hospice Pavilion in Newtown, PA. He was born April 26, 1924 on his Uncle's farm in Craryville, NY. He was the son of the late Louis Marcelli and Mary (Christiana) Marcelli.
Lou proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
He was the co-owner and operator of the Elm Tree Restaurant in Craryville, NY for 38 years, 1947-1985. In addition, he spent 20 years as a salesman for Sysco Foods working out of Albany NY. When he was in his early 20's he worked for the state of New York, inspecting meat brought in on large ships from abroad. As a child, he spent his summers on his Uncle's farm in Ghent, returning to Brooklyn, NY to attend school in the fall. He loved the farm, the animals, and most of all, his cousin Ben.
Lou was a kind, gentle and loving man who was well respected by all. He had many interests. Lou loved Formula One racing, driving on country roads, music (opera), fishing, professional sports, including boxing, but most of all spending time with his lovely wife Sara who passed away in 1994. He always said that Sara was the love of his life.
Survivors include his daughter Lois Marcelli Vorgang and her husband James Vorgang of Langhorne, PA and son Robert Marcelli, of Greenville, NY, granddaughter Nicole Marcelli and great grandson Cosmo Marcelli. He is also survived by his sister Carol Salamina and her husband Charles of Las Vegas, NV, sister-in-law Millie Policastro of Craryville, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother Anthony Maffei.
Calling hours are from 5-8 PM on Monday, October 7, at Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake, NY. Friends may also call Tuesday from 10-10:45 AM prior to the mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 8074 State Route 22 in Copake Falls with the Rev. Joseph Falletta officiating.
Private interment will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Copake Falls, NY.
