Hillsdale, NY…Lindy Glen Miller, Sr. died Tuesday, September 22 nd , 2020, surrounded by his family. Born February 11 th , 1928 in Hillsdale, he was the son of the late Fred C. Miller and Florence E.R. Miller. Lindy attended Roeliff Jansen Central School before enlisting in the US Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he served for two years during the post-World War II period. After returning from military service, he worked at the Ancram Paper Mill, the Copake Highway Department, and the Taconic State Park in Staatsburg, NY.
On April 30, 1955, Lindy married Jane C. Wilsey in Copake. They were married for nearly 63 years until Jane’s passing in May of last year. Lindy had a woodworking shop where he cut pieces for his wife’s craft shop. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Hillsdale, a lifetime member of the Hillsdale Fire Department and the Cadby-Shutts post of the local VFW.
Lindy made full use of the barns on his property by raising cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens for many years. An avid hunter and fisherman, Lindy often recounted stories of his latest catch and was always able to spot a deer or turkey in a distant field. He enjoyed planting, watering, and harvesting lettuce, tomatoes, corn, potatoes, radishes and other vegetables from his garden every spring and summer. Lindy was widely known in the local community for his gregarious personality, great sense of humor, and for always having a smile on his face.
Lindy is survived by his son, Lindy G. Miller, Jr. of Austerlitz, 2 daughters: Teri (Larry) S. Proper of Copake and Lisa (Paul) J. Marcel of Mill River, MA; 9 grandchildren: Case G. of San Jose, CA., Douglas J. and Hailey A. Miller of Belmont, CA., Todd L. of Brooklyn, Ryan B. of Claverack, Andrew M. of Gales Ferry, CT., and Bridgette S.L. Proper of Schenectady, Lindy-Ann and Jennifer E. Marcel both of Brooklyn; 4 great grandchildren: Mateo Miller, Alex, Wesley, and Jane Proper, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane W. Miller; 2 sisters: Marjorie and Marion; and 3 brothers: Emmett, Calvin, and Fred Miller, Jr.
His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 28 th at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home where friends may call on Sunday, September 27 th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.
Interment will follow in the Copake Cemetery.
