Laurits W. Nielsen

Millbrook, NY – Laurits W. Nielsen, 80, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT.

He was born on April 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Allen and Helen (Hanlon) Nielsen. He spent his childhood in Brooklyn then graduating from Port Jefferson High School on Long Island.

He served with the United States Navy from 1959 – 1962 in Norfolk, VA aboard the USS Richard E. Kraus.

Larry retired from the NYS Troopers in 1985 after 25 years of service, where he served as a firearms instructor for a period of time.

He was a member and past President of the Stanford Lions Club.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA, an avid gun collector and history enthusiast.

On April 11, 1964 in Larchmont, NY he married Anga L. (Keresey) Nielsen. She survives him at home with their dog, Winnie.

In addition to his loving wife Anga, survivors include his daughter, Vivian and Kevin Walsh of Pine Plains, NY; son, Redmond Nielsen and Maik Niedermaier of Berlin Germany; grandchildren, Kyle Walsh and Tyler Mikels of Utica, NY, and Paige Walsh and Jordan Piershalski of Fowlerville, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association, and the staff at Sharon Health Care.

Calling hours are Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 11 to 1 PM at Peck & Peck Funeral Home 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains, NY.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 7 at 1 PM from the funeral home with Military Honors.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
