Karen A. Martel

Karen A. Martel, 69, of Ancram, passed away on November 26, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was born on October 25, 1955 in Plattsburgh, to the late Erwin and Theresa (Brunell) Lyon. Karen worked at Wassaic Developmental Center as a house supervisor for 37 years until her retirement. On June 14, 1980 she married Frank Martel, who survives her at home. After her retirement the two of them enjoyed traveling, especially to the Carolina's and also going on cruises until Karen's health prevented her from doing so.

Karen was steadfast in her faith and was a faithful parishioner at Faith Bible Chapel. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who loved her family above all else. A profound resource for advice, she would often give advice to her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching crime dramas, reading, and was a tetris and candy crush expert who always kept her mind busy. Truly describing her wouldn't be complete unless we mentioned her love for Elvis Presely, Mickey Mouse, Pegasus, Harry Potter and all things purple.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Frank, her four children, Karl (Lauren) Lyon, Duane (Kristy) Martel, Dawn (Shaun) Stickle, and Daryl (Tristan) Martel. Her thirteen adoring grandchildren, Kylei, Caiden, Keigen, Jade, Justin, Nathan, Cameron, Caleb, Hannah, Ty, Shaun Jr., Alex, Blake, Peyton and Troy. Twelve great grandchildren, her brothers, Kevin (Ginny), and Keith Lyon. Her sister, Katherine (Philip Sr.) Ashby, in addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving grandson Jacob Stickle in 2012. 

 A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake. Where funeral service will follow at 6:00pm with Pastor William Mayhew officiating.
