Clinton Corners - Joseph Leon Garcia, 81, of Clinton Corners, NY and previously of Missouri, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He was born March 18, 1932 in Cedar City, Utah, the son of Carmen and Verlean (Haslam) Garcia.
Mr. Garcia honorably served in the United States Navy for 4 years and later went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1950 - 1974 retiring as a master seargeant. He served in many different locations including Korea and Japan and had received numerous medals and ribbons for his devoted service.
He was a superintendent of a food distribution company in Kansas City, MO.
Joseph was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Parkville Ward in Platte City, Missouri.
He is survived by his daughter, Tory Garcia Elvin and her husband James W. Elvin Jr. of Clinton Corners, NY; two grandchildren, James Joseph and Maddisen Rose Elvin of Clinton Corners, NY; five brothers, Carmen Garcia, Fred Garcia, Dewey Olds, Anthony Olds and Connell Olds; and a sister, Louie Alice Engle; as well as several nieces and nephews.
On March 14, 1960 at the American Embassy in Japan he married Mitsuko Yamamoto Garcia. She pre - deceased him in 2008.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Stanford Cemetery in Stanfordville, NY.
Friends are invited and may call from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 7749 S. Main St., Pine Plains, NY 12567.
