Joseph H. Brightly, 82 of Taghkanic, NY passed peacefully at his residence on Thursday February 21, 2019 in the presence of his loving family.
He was born on May 7, 1936 in Livingston, NY, a son of the late Walter and Margaret (Svingala) Brightly.
Joseph had been employed by Almstead Excavating as a heavy equipment operator and was also a talented small engine repair specialist.
He was a support member of the Taghkanic Volunteer Fire Co. and was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Florida where he spent his winters. In his younger days Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing and the great outdoors. In his later years he participated in dancing and Zumba, listening to music, attending auctions and flea markets and an occasional trip to Hooters for Buffalo Wings.
On February 15, 1958 he married Shirley (Chappel) Brightly, she pre – deceased him in 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lu Brightly of Pittsfield, MA and two granddaughters, Ashley Marie Hilscher of Tempe, AZ and Laura Cains of Fayetteville, NC. He also leaves a sister, Delia “Bunny” Bjercke of Jefferson, NY and a sister in law, Jackie Brightly of Ancram, NY along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, he was pre deceased by his siblings, Walter, George, Margaret and Timothy.
Friends are invited and may call on Monday February 25, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 26, 2019 at 10 AM from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, 8074 Route 22 in Copake Falls, NY.
Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson NY.
