Red Hook, NY - John E. Blakeley, 60, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on May 26, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late John F. and Eleanor Blakeley.
John worked for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie as a painter. For over twenty years he was the service manager for Ruge's Subaru in Rhinebeck. He enjoyed his career and thought of his co-workers as part of his extended family.
He was a graduate of Red Hook High School.
John enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. Also he was an avid NASCAR Fan.
He proudly served his country with the United States Navy.
On March 10, 1973 in Pine Plains he married Deborah Marie (Doyle) Blakeley. She predeceased him on April 7, 2006.
Survivors include a daughter Sara and her husband Christopher Dundon of Elizaville, NY; a son, Cody J. Blakeley of Red Hook, NY; two grandchildren, Caleb and Sophie Dundon; father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Gloria Doyle of Pine Plains, NY; a sister-in-law Brenda and her husband Peter White. He is also survived by an aunt-in-law Barbara Wesley of Red Hook and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was predeceased by a sister Ann Kadletz.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, January 12, at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains.
Funeral services are Friday, January 13, at 1:30 pm, from the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery Pine Plains.
