Joan Catherine Ehrcke Fleming peacefully passed into the arms of The Lord on February 20, 2014 at the age of 83 after a long period under hospice care in Ancram, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and The Rev. John Miller. Joan was born in Albany, NY on February 16, 1931. She graduated from Albany High School where she met her future husband, Louis Fleming. They were married for 29 years. She also graduated from SUNY Albany and taught English at Coxsackie - Athens Central School and St. Agnes/Doane Stuart.
She retired from The AYCO Company and lived with her other daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and John Larkins in Saratoga Springs. She helped take care of their two children for 18 years, eventually moving with them to Toms River, NJ. She moved back to New York in 2009 and enjoyed her last years living in Ancram across from the Roe Jan waterfall.
She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, one brother and three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan belonged to Gloria Dei Episcopal Church, Palenville, where a memorial service will be held later in the spring.
