James F. Donovan Jr., 76, of Pine Plains, passed away after a brief illness at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was born in Brooklyn on April 8, 1947 to the late James and Jennie Donovan. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served until 1968. James was the director of environmental services at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx until his retirement.
On September 21, 1985 in Brooklyn, he married Alice Le Beau. The same year in which they moved to Pine Plains to raise a family. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his property. His friends, cousins, and family would often come up from the city to visit and in the wintertime they would sit around the burn barrel telling stories of the good old days. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Met’s and the New York Giants. He also enjoyed the oldies and could quote most of Goodfella’s.
James is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Alice Donovan, their son, James Donovan III and his fiancé Denise Capistran. His daughter and her husband, Kellyann Donovan and Justin Ross. His adoring grandson, Logan Daniel Ross. Brother Francis Donovan and four sisters, Maryellen Donovan, Jennifer Donovan, Annmarie & Daniel Turner and Francine & Paul Carbone. In addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
