Hilda May Sands

Millerton, NY - Hilda May Sands, 87, passed away on January 10, 2015 at Vassar Brother's Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.

She was born on April 18, 1927 in Derby, CT the daughter of the late Russell and Edna Mea (French) Palmer.

Mrs. Sands was owner and operator of the Millerton Diner and the Round Tuit Restaurants. She also worked for the Interlaken Inn and Noble Horizons.

She is a member of the Millerton American Legion Post # 178 Ladies auxiliary.

She graduated from Winsted High School.

On November 29, 1946 in Millerton, NY she married Douglas Leon Sands. He predeceased her in 1989.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas R. Sands of Millerton, NY; Bobby and his wife Frosty Sands of Daytona Beach, FL; Larry and his wife Linda Sands of Pine Plains, NY; two daughters, Linda and her husband Ronnie Jones of Copake, NY; Kathy Acklin of Millerton, NY; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandsons.

She was also predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 pm on Friday, January 16, at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Rte. 22 Copake, NY.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 17, at the funeral home with Rev. William Mayhew, officiating.

A reception will follow the service at the Millerton American Legion Post # 178.

Burial will be in the Irondale Cemetery in the family plot in the spring.
