Herbert R. Schmeichel Sr

Hillsdale, NY - Herbert R. Schmeichel Sr., 72, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Fairview Commons in Gt. Barrington, MA.

He was born in Hudson, NY on August 22, 1941 the son of Herbert G. and Hilda M. (Taylor) Schmeichel.

Mr. Schmeichel was owner and operator of Herb Schmeichel Electric Inc. in Hillsdale, NY.

He was past Fire Chief and President of the Hillsdale Fire Company.

He was Captain of the Fire Police and Secretary to the Fire Commissioners. He was also a past Scout Master.

On December 30, 1961 in Hillsdale, NY he married Valerie J. (Hall) Schmeichel. She survives him at home.

In addition to his loving wife Valerie of fifty two years, survivors include two daughters, Linda Porreca and her husband, Allan of Claverack, NY; Karen Bishop of Hillsdale, NY; three grandchildren, Thomas Bishop III, Caitlin Bishop both of Hillsdale, NY and Alicia Porreca of Claverack, NY; two sisters, Joan Laverack of Hillsdale, NY; and Peggy Fitting of Claverack, NY.

He was predeceased by a son, Herbert R. Schmeichel Jr. in 1987.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
