Harold Victor Klare

Harold Victor Klare, a resident since 1954 of Jordan Lane Farm in Pine Plains, New York died April 19, 2011 in his 100th year. At the time of his death, Mr. Klare was in a nursing home in Sunderland, MA.

His wife, the former Martha Elizabeth Jordan, whom he married May 31, 1940 in Jamaica, NY, predeceased him in March 1995.

Harold Klare was born March 7, 1912 in Ridgewood, NY, the son of August and Freda (Welz) Klare. He graduated magna cum laude in 1933 from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Captain.

He retired in 1974 from Andrea Radio Corporation, being a comptroller and director. He was a deacon and member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains and was a charter and past president of the Little Nine Partners Historical Society. Mr. Klare was also on the board of the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

Mr. Klare is survived by a son, William Victor Klare of Wading River, NY; two daughters - Betsy Speeter of Hatfield, MA and Helen Jackson of Konowa, OK; three grandsons - Christopher William Klare, Robert Matthew Klare and Zachariah Joy Jackson; two granddaughters - Barbara Elizabeth Speeter and Abigail Jordan Speeter Bielski; and one great-grandson - Jordan Greg Bielski.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 1 pm at the First United Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains, NY, followed by a reception at the church hall. Pastor Carol Miller will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains, 3039 Church St., Pine Plains, NY 12567.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 7749 S. Main St., Pine Plains, NY.
