Gordon Ferris

Stanfordville - Gordon Ferris, 87, a resident of Stanfordville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his residence, with his loving children by his side.

He was born September 25, 1925 in Unionvale, NY, the son of George and Maude (Haug) Ferris. On October 7, 1945 in Freedom Plains, NY he married Eleanor Boyle. Mrs. Ferris predeceased him on January 15, 2009.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Ferris worked for the Poughkeepsie Journal, and was a caretaker for Wethersfield Farm in Amenia, Cascadia Farm in Stanfordville, and the CitiBank property in Stanfordville.

Gordon loved his family and was a great hunter and fisherman. He was one of the founders of Neighbors' Gun Club in Rhinebeck, and a life member of the West Clinton Fire Company No. 1.

He belonged to the Stanford Lions Club, where he was formerly a Director, was a member of the Stanford Forever Young Club, and a member of the Poughkeepsie Moose Lodge. Gordon also served as Trustee of the United Church of Christ and drove for many years for Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Ferris was a member of the Dutchess County Sports Museum, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Additionally, he walked for the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society for thirteen years.

He is survived by a son, Vincent Ferris of Stanfordville, NY; three daughters, Dolores (Dee) Planke of Poughkeepsie, NY; Barbara Berry of Tivoli; and Gloria Lang of Hyde Park, NY; as well as six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Ferris was predeceased by a granddaughter, Joy Lynn Berry, a brother, Floyd G. Ferris, and a son-in-law, Harry Lang.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 7749 S. Main St., Pine Plains.

Funeral Services will begin at 7 PM, with Rev. Rhoda Starzyk of the United Church of Christ in Stanfordville officiating.

Interment will be held at the Stanford Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Pl., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, or the United Church of Christ, PO Box 424, Stanfordville, NY 12581.
