Giorgio Vergottini passed away on February 21, 2025 at the age of 70 in Hudson, NY. Giorgio was born on November 14, 1954 in Dervio, Italy, on the picturesque shores of Lake Como in the Italian Alps. As a teenager, he spent much of his time working alongside his Nonno Giorgio and his father at the family’s respected specialty food market, where he developed both his culinary skills and his lifelong passion for cooking. Some of his fondest memories were of delivering orders on his beloved Vespa.
Like his late father Mario Vergottini, Giorgio had a deep love for fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. As a child, he was known for his great strength, stubbornness, and playful nature, often pulling pranks. In 1969, at the age of 14, he and his family moved to the United States. A headstrong young man, Giorgio valued his freedom and developed a passion for cars, music, and disco. He was also a devoted dog lover, always having a canine companion by his side.
At 18, he met his future wife, Arlene Gibbis. In 1987, they were blessed with their daughter, Jessica, the light of his life. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Giorgio built a successful career as a respected and beloved chef. In the 90s, he and Arlene separated, and Giorgio met his second wife, Jackie Armona. In the early 2000s, the couple moved to Hudson, NY, where Giorgio continued to refine his craft, working in many of the Hudson Valley’s finest restaurants.
In his later years, Giorgio faced significant health challenges and endured the tragic loss of Jackie. During this difficult time, he moved in with his mother, Maria Vergottini, who provided love and support in his final years.
Giorgio will be remembered by his family and friends for his strong personality, incredible cooking, and sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Matt); his loving mother, Maria; his sisters, Nicoletta (Jonathan) and Patrizia (Alex); his nieces and nephews; and his faithful little white dog, Ringo.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19, 2025 from 2-6 PM at the Hudson Power Boat Association, 23 Ferry St, Hudson, NY 12534.
