Gesue A. Corretti, a.k.a. Joe, Dad, Papa, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2018. Papa was one of the kindest, most gentle souls to grace this earth. God has gained an angel and we now have a guardian angel.
Joe was born on July 15, 1926 to Teapeasta and Eostachio Corretti on School St. on Yonkers, NY. Joe was a World War II veteran having been drafted in 1943. He became a sergeant and served in the Philippines and Japan. While on the way to Japan, Joe’s ship endured a typhoon, with the ship repeatedly going under water. Joe often spoke of this, reflecting how all of the men to include himself were sick for days. After his discharge from the military, Joe went to school under the GI Bill, learning the wonderful trade of Auto Body Craftsmanship.
Joe’s first business was owner and operator of Brimmore Service Station in Yonkers from 1958 – 1961. He later owned and operated Joe’s Auto Body on Vark St. in Yonkers from 1961 – 1991, Joe retired from Auto Body at the age of 65.
On September 2, 1967 he married the love of his life, Martha Steigleman McClain. Joe and Martha moved from Yonkers to Jefferson Valley in 1967 where they raised her two sons and he readily became their Dad. Joe quickly stepped up to the plate to raise Martha’s sons. Joe and Martha moved to Copake, NY in January of 2000. He was the best father any man could hope to be. Following the death of his wife, Joe lived with his son Shawn and wife Patricia McClain in Copake, NY.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, sister Angela Colabatistto in 2001, wife Martha on March 5, 2007, stepson Thomas on December 31, 2015 and many friends.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son and daughter in law, Shawn and Patricia McClain, grandchildren Shawn McClain Jr. of Manhattan, NY, Tara – Anne McClain of Boston, MA, Kyle McClain and Kelly McClain of Harriman, NY, brother and sister in law, Anthony and Natalie Corretti of Yonkers, NY as well as many sisters and brother in laws and nieces and nephews. God has gained an angel and his son Shawn and his family have received a guardian angel.
