Pine Plains, NY - Gertrude S. Winans, 86, a longtime resident of Pine Plains passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Whittier Rehab and Nursing Center in Ghent, NY.

She was born on January 22, 1927 in Natchez, MS the daughter of the late James and Florence (Vaden) Schepers.

She was a registered nurse for Dutchess County Department of Health for twenty six years.

She was a long time member of the Pine Plains Methodist Church and previously was on the Advisory Board.

She volunteered her time at Hospice Inc., American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the Dutchess County Office of the Aging.

On April 2, 1950 in Pine Plains, NY she married Huntting C. Winans Jr. He predeceased her in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Audrey McCrory of MS; a son, David Winans of Hyde Park, NY; a sister, Jeanette Tisdale of MS; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Vail of Lagrangeville, NY; two grandchildren, Melissa Williams and Amanda Aldridge; five great grandchildren, also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Carolyn Eick, Mary Berryhill, Kathryn Norris, and also three brothers, Ralph, James and Elmer Schepers.

Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home South Main St. Pine Plains, NY 12567.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 19, 2013from the Pine Plains United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gregg Higgins, officiating.

Interment will follow in Smithfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Pine Plains United Methodist Church 3023 Church St. Pine Plains, NY 12567.
