Gerald J. Coons

Gerald J. Coons, 82, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2021 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta. He was born on March 23, 1939 in Poughkeepsie the son of the late Rose (Kilmer) Coons. At the Pine Plains Presbyterian Church on August 31, 1957, he married Dawn Bryenton and together they enjoyed 63 years marriage. Jerry was a truck driver for most of his working career. Driving both locally and over the road, before deciding to start his own contracting business Coons Enterprises Inc. He retired in 1999, and he and Dawn moved to Stamford, NY where they have called home since.

Jerry was an avid sports fan, enjoying bowling, baseball, and playing softball on the Corvette’s team. He also had a passion for old cars and trucks. In addition to enjoying motorcycle rides in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Dawn. His two sons and daughters – in- laws, Steven and Laura Coons, and Bryan and Annmarie Coons. Four grandchildren, Sarah (Corey) Wheeler, Patrick Coons, Jordan (Danielle) Coons, and Brendan Coons. Also, four great grandchildren, Giuliana, Joseph, Niccolo Coons, and Maddox Wheeler. A special cousin Pamala Camburn and many other cousins.

Gerald was predeceased by his mother Rose Greenlee, Step father Vincent Greenlee, his son Vincent Coons and his beloved dogs, Lady, Rusty and JR.

Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 S. Main Street, Pine Plains. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
