George August Dreves Jr.

George August Dreves Jr., 98, of Nobleboro, ME passed away on May 1, 2018.

He was born on August 31, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY the third son of George and Emma Dreves.

He grew up in Little Neck, NY and worked in his father’s confectionary store making candy and ice cream, and later ran the store with his siblings for a short time.

In 1942 he joined the Army and served in North Africa in the 34th Red Bull Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded during the Battle of Hill 609 in Tunisia. After returning home from the war he worked several jobs including: new car manager for Chrysler, making mouth pieces for musical instruments at Arnold Brilharts, and finally working for the New York State School system as bus driver and mechanic in both Williston Park, Long Island and Hillsdale, NY.

In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling with his wife, splitting wood, and carving ducks and figures while his wife would paint them, creating gifts and memories for their family and many friends from around the world. After the death of his wife of 63 years, he moved to Nobleboro, ME where he enjoyed going to the casino once or twice a week and watching American Pickers.

He is predeceased by his wife, Mildred Dreves (née Rhodes), and his two older brothers Robert and Carl Dreves.

Survivors include; his younger brother, Arthur Dreves, and sister, Dorothy Dreves, both of Oviedo, Florida; his loving children, Judith Blevins of Hillsdale, NY, Vera Willi of Mebane, NC, and Sandra Holly O’Brien of Nobleboro, ME. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Heathar Jensen, Deborah Maher, Catherine Forneris, Dorothy Forneris, Andrew Forneris, James O’Brien, Robert O’Brien II, George O’Brien, and Desmond O’Brien; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services and internment will be held at the convenience of the family
