Pine Plains, NY - Frank A. Moore, 77, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 at home. He was the second of three sons born on January 14, 1933 in Sharon, CT the son of the late Thomas James and Helen Elizabeth (Bryan) Moore Sr. Frank was raised on the family owned dairy farm, known as the Bryan farm in Shekomeko, NY. The farm was in the family for three generations. Frank's parents were the second generation and Frank's brother Thomas Jr. was the third.
During high school Frank excelled in basketball. His love of sports continued into adulthood when he played in a men's softball league. He never lost his love of sports and was a College basketball and Yankee fan all his life.
He served as a Corporal with the United States Army in the Second Armored Division. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
Prior to leaving for Germany and on July 10, 1954 at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Pine Plains, NY. He married the late Kathleen Joy (McGhee) Moore. She predeceased him in 1999.
When he returned from Germany he and Kathleen moved into their home in Pine Plains, NY. They purchased the home from Frank's Aunt. Frank and Kathleen raised their children and remained in that home for the duration of their life together.
Frank worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY in the maintenance and security departments. He retired in the early 1990's. After retiring, Frank worked for Superior Sanitation in Pine Plains, NY. He loved his job as it would sometimes involve driving long distances; something he loved to do.
He enjoyed many outdoor hobbies including watching the birds, especially turkeys, fishing and supplying the Trout he caught to a local Inn and gardening.
Later in life he enjoyed joining his friends at Peddler's Cafe around the round table. There, over coffee new stories were created and old ones shared.
To those he loved, cared for and enjoyed friendships with he leaves many memories of swimming holes, trout streams, chicken and beef bar bar ques, church suppers and stories of growing up during a time which won't be seen again. He was a wonderful storyteller. His stories he brought to life characters and events from his youth and life. He will be missed terrible by many folks.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Moore of Rhinebeck, NY; a son, Brandon Pierce Moore of Cape Canaveral, FL; a companion of ten years, Linda Martin of Pine Plains, NY; a brother, Richard Burns Moore of Cornelius, NC; five grandchildren, Amanda, Carrie-Anne, Melissa, Erik and Trinity.
Frank was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas James Moore Jr. in 1985.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home South Main St. Pine Plains, NY.
Funeral services are 1 pm on Saturday, June 19, at the funeral home with Rev. Carol Miller officiating.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
