Millerton, NY - Francis W. LaMere, 78, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.

He was born on January 26, 1932 in Merrill, NY the son of the late Delphus and Geraldine (LaPointe) LaMere.

Mr. LaMere was a therapy Aide for the Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Center in Wassaic, NY.

He served from 1952-54 and 1956-58 in the United States Army as Specialist 3rd Class during the Korean War. Mr. LaMere was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, three other medals and a badge.

He is a member of the VFW Post # 7955 and American Legion Post # 178.

On April 26, 1952 in Lyon Mountain, NY he married Ethel R. (Charland) LaMere. She survives him at home.

In addition to his loving wife Ethel, survivors include a daughter, Donna L. and her husband David Carman of Ancramdale, NY; three sons, Richard B. LaMere of Millerton, NY; Roger W. and his wife Cheri LaMere of Millerton, NY; Rodney P. and his wife Dorothy LaMere of Amenia, NY; three sisters, Dora Secore of Brainardsville, NY; Lillian Joanette of Brushton, NY; Mary Gardener of Lyndonville, NY; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains, NY 12567.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon Wednesday, January 5, from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Millerton, NY with Fr. Charles Heston officiating.

Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains with Military Honors.
