Florence Marie Grassi

Florence "Sissy" Marie Grassi, a life long resident of Pine Plains, passed away on Friday, March 28 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. She was born January 8, 1927 at St. Francis Hospital. The daughter of Roy Pulver and Florence Pulver (Schrowang). She was predeceased by her husband Anthony "Tony" Grassi on April 27, 2009. They eloped to Elkton, Maryland and were married at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on January 5, 1948.

Florence graduated from Pine Plains School and then enrolled in the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corp., graduating from St. Francis Nursing School in Poughkeepsie as an RN. She worked at Northern Dutchess Hospital and in the hospital at Waissac State School. She volunteered on the Pine Plains ambulance squad.

Florence leaves behind her two daughters, Marjean Cahill and her husband Edward of Pine Plains and Patricia Grassi of Red Hook. She is also survived by her grandsons, granddaughter and great grandchildren; Christopher Cahill of Jacksonville, Flordia; Justin Cahill, his wife Lucreticia and their children Cora, Dexter, and Zavier of Maretta, GA; and Megan Calnan, her husband James and their children Luke, Samuel, Gabriel, and Mae of Rensselaer NY. She is also survived by her nephew Edward Casazza Jr., Stephen Casazza, and niece Louisa Grassi.

Funeral services are Private at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, S. Main St., Pine Plains. Interment will be private at Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534.
