Stanfordville, NY - Farley Frederick Churton A.k.a. “Fud” was born to Robert and Susanna (Farley) Churton on May 6th, 1952 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Connecticut. Farley was the second born of four sons. He passed away on January 5th, 2020 at 1112pm at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Farley was 67 years young at the time of his passing and had been “kicking cancers ass” for four years until he succumbed to his illness.
Farley was a lifelong resident of Stanfordville, NY; he grew up in the Hamlet of Bangall with his parents and 3 brothers Bobby, Stephen and Mark. Farley attended Stissing Mountain Jr. Sr. High School where he played in a band with friends, was part of the basketball and football teams and where he met his high school sweet heart Linda J. Haire. Farley graduated from high school in 1971 and went on to marry Linda in September 1971. He was drafted into the Army and briefly served the country until he was honorably discharged in 1972 due to an injury. Farley had 2 daughters, Susanna and Jessica Churton out of his marriage to Linda and he thought the world of them. He was a kind and loveable father with a quiet and gentle temperament, his daughters adored him. Farley and Linda, we’re later divorced.
Farley was a lifelong carpenter and contractor, he started his own carpentry business in Bangall where he created beautiful pieces of furniture, he was a master craftsman and his carpentry and remodeling work were sought out by many, he had an eye for detail and accomplished perfection in his work. Farley had many other accomplishments throughout his life as well, he was a 2nd degree black belt in Karate, Tae Kwon Do style and he worked hard for several years to achieve his black belts. In the 1980’s he opened a Karate school in Stanfordville where he taught many people from the community, he loved teaching Karate and mentoring his young students, he was a compassionate and gentle teacher and it was important to him that his students remained humble and did not use Karate inappropriately to injure others. He strived in his teachings to keep the honor and integrity of the sport intact. Farley was admired by his students who still speak highly of him to this day.
Farley was also an avid fisherman, sportsman and outdoorsman, he had a genuine love for the outdoors and nature, he enjoyed the solitude and peace of the forest and he lived for deer hunting. Farley hunted his whole life, his love for it came only second to that of his children and grandchildren. Deer season was Farley’s time of year and his favorite hobby. Like many deer hunters, Farley was always in search of “the big buck” but he always hunted with respect and consideration for the animal, he thought the white- tailed deer was incredibly beautiful and he loved the taste of venison. Farley loved animals and beginning when he was a teenager, he rescued and raised quite a few baby animals including a woodchuck, a red-tailed hawk, a possum, and a fawn. If Farley couldn’t be found it was because he was in the woods and if he could be found he was either at Uncle Sonny’s sipping a “Silver Soda” or in his driveway leaning on the back of his truck drinking “a cold one” or a “silver bullet” as he liked to call it. Farley’s third love was an ice-cold Coors light enjoyed with good company.
Farley will be remembered as a man of good character, he prided himself on leaving people in better shape than he found them. He could light up the room with his smile and sense of humor and bring the house down with a good joke. He was really, really funny and had a knack for impersonating and imitating people, especially when he was re-telling a story. He seemed to sense when people needed a big ole hug and he gave out big hugs to cheer others up or to make them feel loved liberally. He was a lovable, strong, big teddy bear of a man with a pure and honest heart who always wanted to “do the right thing” and most times, he did. Farley will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him and he will forever be missed by family and friends, especially his daughters.
