Elizabeth Ann (Baumbach) Hyne

August 28, 1930 — June 27, 2023

Copake, NY

Elizabeth, known by all as “Betty,” passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Born of German immigrants, Anna and Fredrich Baumbach, Betty spent most of her life in Huntington Long Island and in retirement moved with her husband of 70 years, Edward (Eddy) A. Hyne Sr., to Copake, NY. Betty spent her formative years involved with dance, art, and sailing, and earned a degree from LaSalle Junior College in art and modern dance. Her passion for art continued throughout her life in oil painting and taking a job as a graphic artist for an agency on Long Island. She also taught dance and did some substitute art teaching. Later she worked as an admin for the Suffolk County Department of Health.

On December 7, 1952, Eddy and Betty were married and honeymooned at Jug End Barn in Egremont, Ma, never realizing they would retire in the area. They raised their two children in their home in Commack, Long Island. They shared a love for boating and enjoyed many years as a family boating out of Northport harbor and the Eaton’s Neck area of Long Island Sound.

Upon their retirement they moved up to Copake, where they had spent many years camping. Betty and Eddy developed a love of golf, and each joined leagues. They took annual trips to and from Florida in their motor home and enjoyed hosting occasional family reunions at their home. They were members of St John’s Lutheran Church and became active members of the Young at Hearters for many years, enjoying all the trips, events, and wonderful friends they made. Betty was a member of the Undermountain Women’s Golf League, the Women’s Christmas Craft group at St. John’s, and served with Meals on Wheels in Copake.

Betty is survived by her husband, Eddy, who calls her ‘the love of my life,’ daughter Beth Bodemann (husband David), son Eddy Hyne Jr.; grandchildren Davey Bodemann (wife Emily), Daniel Bodemann, and Jennifer Duer (husband Josh); and great grandchildren Kaylee Bodemann, and Lochlan Duer.
