Pine Plains, NY - Doris H. Vater, 88, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT.

She was born on May 5, 1926 in Millerton, NY, the daughter of Charles B. and Eva M. (VanDeBogart) Hoysradt Sr.

A life member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Doris joined the church when she was fourteen. She enjoyed singing in the choir and in later years serving with the Women's Assoc. She was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer with the Office of the Aging for several years.

During WW II, she served as a civilian volunteer plane spotter for the United States Army's Aircraft Warning Service.

Doris loved country music, dancing and nature so well that she hiked up Stissing Mountain when she was eighty two. Above all, she loved spending time with family and delighted in attending the school activities and sporting events of her grandchildren.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, quilting and handcrafting.

On August 17, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains, she married Ernest C. Vater Jr. He predeceased her.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia (Richard) Koch of Altamont, NY; Lonnie D. Vater of Pine Plains, NY; a sister, Wilma J. Homiak of Clifton Park, NY; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Dale, Christy, Jennie, Shawn, Kenly, Vincent, Jansen and six great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Vincent E. Vater, a sister, Viola E. Adams and a brother, Charles B. Hoysradt Jr.

Calling hours are 10 to 12 pm on Friday, June 27, at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains.

Funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, June 27, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Pine Plains, with Rev. Carol Miller, officiating.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
