Delbert M. "Duke" Boyles Sr., 93 of Schnackenberg Rd. in Ghent, NY passed away on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at his residence.
Duke was born on March 17, 1922 in Ancram, NY a son of Delbert C. and Hazel (Brothers) Boyles.
A lifelong resident of Columbia County, Duke was a self employed building contractor.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1945. A Technical Sergeant with the 104th Timberwolf Division, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart on January 1,1945.
He was an avid sportsman and also enjoyed traveling and camping. Known as a hard worker he continued to cut and split wood almost to the very end. Loved by everyone, he loved riding his Harley but most enjoyed spending time with his family.
On August 9, 1946 he married Marjorie F. (Barden) Boyles in Philmont, NY, a blessed union of over 69 years.
Surviving is his beloved wife Marjorie of Ghent, his loving children, Sally Ingles (Harry) of Philmont, Robert Boyles (Diane) of Philmont, Ronald Boyles (Judy) of Hollowville, Delbert Boyles Jr. (Patty) of Hillsdale, Thomas Boyles (Marsha) of Connecticut and Scott Boyles (Janet) of Hillsdale. He leaves 12 grandchildren, Skip, John, Krystal, Heather, Ronald Jr., Brett, Elysia, Thomas Jr., George, Matthew, Brad and Sean. Also several great and great great grandchildren along with two sisters, Verna Montague and Jean Smith (Clyde) both of Philmont and several nieces and nephews. Lastly, he leaves his canine companion Benji. Other close family members include Carrie Mayotte and Lisa Mahar.
Duke and Marjorie were also foster parents to 42 children over a 12 year period.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday December 19, 2015 from 1-4 PM at the Philmont Rod and Gun Club, 65 Railroad Ave. in Philmont, NY.
