Carolyn Margaret Ackley Schreck

It is with loving hearts that the family of Carolyn Margaret Ackley Schreck announce her peaceful passing on October 26, 2012 in Exeter New Hampshire.

Carolyn, born in Copake New York on September 17, 1919 was the daughter of John Day and Mina (Wilkinson) Ackley and sister to Harriet Ackley Peck Straussberger and J. Benedict Ackley. Prior to her marriage to G Robert (Bob) Schreck in 1943, she attended Syracuse University and Edgewook Park College.

Most recently Carolyn lived at The Ridge at Riverwoods in Exeter, New Hampshire. She and her husband Bob split their retirement between Chatham (Cape Cod) Massachusetts and Vero Beach Florida. Carolyn, with her family lived in Baltimore, MD, Richmond VA, Delmar and Pittsford New York.

Carolyn served on the Board of Directors of Copake Telephone Company which later became Taconic Telephone Company. She had been active in the PTA, the Women's Club of Albany and Rochester New York, and a member of the Cape and Islands Coast Guard Auxiliary. She was a 50+ year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her children Barbara Carolyn Behan of Hampton NH, John R Schreck (Muriel) of Fairfield, CT, Craig Alan Schreck Sr. (Deborah) of North Hampton, NH and Carol Schreck of Key West FL; her three grandsons Michael Brendan Behan (Susan) of Hampton NH, Craig-Alan Schreck Jr (Alanna) of Greenland, NH and Jonathan Schreck of North Hampton and found great joy in her great-grandchildren Ryan Behan, Maggie Behan, Maeve Schreck and Callen Schreck. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Pam Peck Blakely, Gary Peck and Charles Peck, Judy Ackley Whitbeck, Marylyn Ackley Herrignton, Lorinda Ackley Mazur, Mary Ackley and Elizabeth Ackley Nielsen.

The family would like to thank the Ridge at Riverwoods and the Exeter Hospital for their kindness. There are no calling hours.

Funeral service is at 11 am on Thursday, November 1st from the West Copake Reformed Church. Interment will be private.
