Red Hook / Stanfordville, NY - Carol J. Coons, 73, a lifelong area resident passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011, peacefully at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, surrounded by her children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and family.
Carol was born in Bronx, NY on December 26, 1937 the daughter of the late John Joseph and Anna (Tulke) Jones.
Before moving to Dutchess County in June, 1948 she and her brothers and sister enjoyed living one block from the Atlantic Ocean at Rockaway Beach, Long Island. Her fondest memories in Rockaway were roller skating, swimming, going to Rockaway Playland, and her many friends.
Carol was employed by the Pine Plains School District as a cafeteria manager at Cold Spring School. She and her Husband Raymond enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Stanfordville. Family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed all the family gatherings. Her grandchildren and children were her pride and joy. Carol loved to share stories of her grandchildren with everyone.
On July 6, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Bangall, NY she married her one true love, Raymond D. Coons, Sr. He predeceased her on April 6, 2008.
Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Huard and her husband Mark of Poughkeepsie, NY; a son, Raymond D. Coons Jr. and his wife Lori of Red Hook, NY; her two loving grandchildren, Brian and Samantha Huard; her "adopted" grandchildren, Shawn and Kelly Taylor of Staatsburg, NY; five brothers, John Jones of Venice, FL; Warren Jones of Melbourne, FL; Larry Jones and his wife Anita of Lynbrook, NY; Robert Jones of Stanfordville, NY; Virgil Shook Sr. of Stanfordville, NY; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Florence Wesolowski and brother, Arthur Jones.
Calling hours are 3 to 6 pm on Friday, October 21, and again on Saturday, October 22, from 10 to 11 am at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains.
Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Saturday, October 22, at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home 7749 South Main St. Pine Plains, NY with Pastor Rhoda Starzyk officiating.
Burial will follow in the Stanford Cemetery in Stanfordville, NY.
A reception will follow the burial at the Stanford Grange.
