Carl P. Sardaro Sr. 92, passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2023. He was born on October 4, 1931 to the late Xavier and Katherine (Bischoff) Sardaro in Brooklyn, New York. He was a 1949 graduate of Brooklyn Preparatory High School. He then attended St. Peter’s College in New Jersey where he played collegiate LaCross as a goalie. His collegate career was cut short when Uncle Sam called him to Korea in 1952. He served in 501st Infantry, rose to the rank of Corporal (T) and gave his mother the greatest mother’s day gift when he returned home in 1954. After returning home Carl met Eileen Blackburn. They wed on July 8, 1961 and were happily married until her passing in 2000.
Carl was a devout Catholic, serving as a Lector at St. Anthony’s Church in Pine Plains. He also had a passion for model railroading and public service. He was a member of the Kingston Model Railroad club, also a Scout Master for Boy Scout troop 51. He was in the Fantastic Fox Patrol in Woodbridge, and also in the Order of the Arrow. He was also a 60 year member of the Milan Volunteer Fire Department serving in many rolls, most notably as member of the Board of Director from 1977 to 2023.
Carl is survived by his four children, Carl Jr. (Lynne), of Gallatin, Catherine Sardaro-Gomm (John), of Clermont, Alfred (Melisa) of Clermont, and Mark (Megan) of Milan. His grandchildren; Thomas Gomm (Danielle), Philipp Gomm (Acadia), Rebecca Sardaro-Crawford (Silas), Catherine A. Gomm, Angela & Phillipp Sardaro. His brother John Sardaro (Mary Lou), of Clermont, along with many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was predeceased by his sister Joan Dilgen, nieces Nicole and Kendra Sardaro and nephews, Edward and Zane Sardaro.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main Street, Pine Plains, NY 12567. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM from St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, Poplar Avenue, Pine Plains. Burial will take place privately at the conveience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery.
Donations in Carl’s memory are welcomed to the Milan Volunteer Fire Department or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
