On Saturday, September 28, 2013 our dad, and husband, Bill Lutz passed away. He was born in East Northport, NY on August 29, 1934 to William and Theresa Lutz. After serving in the U.S. Army, he met his wife Marjorie Wolf in 1960 while at a church social event. They married a year later. Four children followed, Dorothy Lutz and husband Harold Hill of Pine Plains, William Lutz and wife Colleen (Smith) of Ancramdale, Jennifer Boice and husband David of Ancram and Christopher Lutz and his wife Katie Flanagan of Salt Lake City UT. In addition to his children, dad was blessed with six wonderful grandchildren. Johanna and Matt Boice of Ancram, Timothy and Katie Lutz of Ancramdale and Charlotte (Charlie) and Henry Lutz of Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by his three sisters; Grace Larson and her Husband Ken, of East Northport, Barbara Nigro of East Northport and Marie Thompson, of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his two brothers-in-law, Joe Nigro and Redmond Thompson.
In 1973 he sold a successful business to follow his life-long dream of becoming a dairy farmer. Our family moved onto a small farm in Ancramdale NY. As children, moving to the farm was an adventure, and oh, what an adventure it was! Interestingly enough, dad knew exactly what he was doing. He transformed his young somewhat entitled city children into hardworking, responsible, and respected adults.
After more than 20 years he retired from farming and began his next career working at the Columbia County Courthouse. He loved being around people, and people loved being around him.
Volunteer fire service was an important part of his life since joining the East Northport Fire Department when he was 20, where he received several commendations and a Medal of Bravery for the rescue attempt of a small child trapped inside a home. After moving from Long Island, he became a long time member of the Ancram and later, Millerton Fire Departments.
He also volunteered for many community service projects, and in 2011 he received the Millerton Lions Club Citizen of the Year award.
We were lucky to have a dad and husband that followed his dreams. He will be forever missed.
