Albert Edward Lovelace, a resident of Pine Haven Nursing Home, Philmont, NY and formerly Copake, NY and Eastchester, NY, passed peacefully Saturday, October 31, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Al was born October 22, 1931 to William & Grace Lovelace in the Bronx. He attended local schools and enjoyed a happy childhood with his brother Billy.
On April 18, 1959, he married the love of his life, Martha M. Mertz. Theirs was a love affair like no other.
Al was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Marine Corps. He started out as a bread and milk delivery man in the Bronx. He joined the Eastchester Police Department in 1965 and proudly served for 20 years. From there he founded Amlove Limousine Company. After retiring from the limo business, he moved full time to the summer home that he & Martha had built in 1963 in Copake, NY. He was a past president of Taconic Shores Property Owners Association.
Al was an avid Yankees fan. He loved to play softball & basketball, collected antique cars and enjoyed being on his boat.
Al's biggest accomplishment and greatest love was his family. He knew no greater joy than his wife, children, extended family and especially his grandchildren and pets.
He is survived by his wife Martha, of Copake, daughter Jean Adams of Copake, daughter Lori Chamberlin of Copake, daughter and son-in-law Lynn & Christopher Connolly of Copake and a son and daughter-in-law Albert R. & Maryann Lovelace of the Nyacks.
He is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer & Matthew Miller, Alyssa & Joshua Cukerstein, Caly Connolly, Matthew and Juliet Lovelace, Collin Chamberlin, great grandchildren Kaehley and Carter Cukerstein and his puppies Teacup and Tennille.
He was predeceased by his brother Billy and granddaughter Jillian. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.
Friends are invited and may call on Thursday November 5, 2015 from 10:00 - 1:00 PM at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake, NY. A funeral service will be held at 1PM following the visitation.
Interment will be in Williams Cemetery, Copake Falls, NY.
